How to Love Your Space: Transform Your Primary Bedroom Closet into an In-Home Boutique
Imagine waking up to a sunlit room and slipping your feet into plush house slippers. You walk into your organized bathroom and you emerge 15 minutes later fresh from a rejuvenating shower. Next, you step into your primary bedroom closet. Now, envision this space not just as a place to hang your clothes, but as your personal boutique, where every item fits you perfectly.
The Magic of an Organized Closet:
An organized closet does more than streamline your morning routine. It invites creativity and calm into your daily dressing. By decluttering and organizing your primary bedroom closet, you open up a reality, where every outfit is at your fingertips and accessories, complement rather than clutter. If you’re ready to turn your closet into a haven of organization where your personal style shines, read on!
The Magic of an Organized Closet: Your Steps to Create a Closet Sanctuary:
1. Declutter with Purpose:
Begin by decluttering. Sort through your clothes, shoes, and accessories. Evaluate each item for its functionality, how often you use it, and whether you actually like it. Remember, every item in your closet should make you feel confident and happy. If an item is more than 2 sizes away from your current size, or you haven’t worn it in more than a year, it's more than likely time to say goodbye. Keep what you love and donate what you don't. You will feel such a weight lifted and ease to daily decision-making when you’re down to what you actually love and wear, and I promise, you will not miss the rest!
2. Categorize and Conquer:
Organize your items by category: think tops, bottoms, dresses, shoes, and accessories. Within each category, arrange items by color or season. This not only adds visual appeal but makes it easier to mix and match when you’re getting dressed. Beyond that, it also gives you an opportunity to see how many duplicate or similar items you have. No judgment, we all have multiple crisp white shirts and black leggings, but take a moment to consider how many of these items you realistically wear and need. Especially if some of these similar category items are reaching double-digit quantities. Don’t forget to check for stains, holes, rips, and armpit stains, too! How is your white t-shirt looking, old? Seeing how much you have in each category is a great opportunity for further assessment and purging.
3. Elevate with Accessories:
Accessories like jewelry, scarves, hats, bags, and shoes can work to transform both your outfits as well as the look and feel of your closet. Finding creative and space-saving ways to display your accessories throughout your closet can work to make your closet feel like a boutique while making it easier to see what you own. And seeing what you own provides daily outfit inspiration and improves your creativity.
Use elegant hooks, chic baskets, and stylish (yet functional) hangers to add a boutique feel (I personally love the gold hooks with white felt hangers look!). Dedicate a few shelves in your walk-in to display your most prized handbags. Display your favorite pieces, like jewelry and scarves, as if they were art. If you have the space, carve out an area to display your shoes. A well throughout closet not only celebrates your personal style but makes choosing your accessories to complete your outfit a breeze.
4. Lighting is Key:
Good lighting can transform a space. Install soft, warm lighting to make your closet feel inviting. If the space allows for it, add a pretty light fixture overhead as a focal point. Lighting is not just practical for choosing outfits; it also works to create the ambiance of a high-end boutique.
5. Mirror, Mirror on the wall:
A high-functioning, practical primary bedroom closet includes a full-length mirror. It’s a must that adds depth and functionality – making your closet feel larger and more luxurious.
6. Personal Touches:
To take your closet to the next level and create a daily boutique vibe, don’t hesitate to add personal touches like a plush rug, a comfortable ottoman, or artwork with flair. Consider adding inspiring or calming wallpaper and paint to create focal points within your space. These elements make your closet feel like a retreat, rather than a dreary, cluttered storage area. Decorators suggest focusing on two colors to decorate a small space. Try gold metal hooks or details.
