Spring Cleaning Made Simple: 5 Easy Steps to Refresh Your Home
“I’m not really into Spring cleaning…come to think of it I’m not really into summer, fall, or winter cleaning either!”
There’s something magical about refreshing your home after being cooped up all winter. Spring is finally here—the air smells fresher, birds are singing, and perennial flowers are beginning to bloom. Naturally, you want to bring some of that freshness indoors!
One of my favorite ways to embrace the new season is by opening the windows, letting in fresh air, and giving my home a deep refresh. It’s almost enough to make me feel like twirling around on a Swiss hillside and singing The Hills Are Alive! No? Just me? Okay.
But I know that deep cleaning your entire home can feel overwhelming, and that’s why I’m here to help! These five simple spring cleaning tips will make the process more manageable and even enjoyable. Ready to get started?

Make a Plan
Spring Cleaning Starts with a Schedule
I wish I could tell you that professional organizers have a magic wand that makes spring cleaning effortless—but we don’t. The secret to our success is planning!
Think about it this way: Would you hop on a plane to Paris without planning your trip first? Probably not. You’d likely research places to visit, set a budget, book accommodations, and make a list of must-see attractions.
Look at your calendar. Do you have an entire weekend free? If not, schedule small cleaning sessions - maybe an hour each evening or one full Saturday.
Break it down. Tackle one room at a time or divide tasks by category.
Get help. Involve your spouse, kids, or a cleaning service (it’s not cheating if they focus on surfaces they normally don’t clean!)

Declutter First
The Less You Own, the Less You Have to Clean
Before you start scrubbing every corner of your home, decluttering is key. The fewer items you own, the easier your spring cleaning will be.
A great place to start is the infamous junk drawer. It’s a small, manageable space, and sorting through it will help you build momentum.
Decluttering Made Easy: The 3-Step Process
Empty – Take everything out of the space you’re decluttering.
Sort – Decide what to keep, toss, or donate.
Organize – Return only the essentials, using dividers or bins to keep things tidy.

Use a Smart Cleaning Method
There is no “right” way to clean your home
Choosing an effective cleaning method (with the addition of some organization) can make the process easier.
Our Favorite Spring Cleaning Methods
The Top-Down Method: Start at the ceiling (dusting fans and light fixtures), then move down to walls, surfaces, and finally the floors. This prevents dust and dirt from resettling on areas you’ve already cleaned.
The Room-by-Room Method: Focus on one space at a time, completely finishing each before moving to the next.
It doesn’t matter which method you choose—just pick one and get started! Even your dog doesn’t care how you do it, as long as the floor is clean enough for belly rubs.

Gather Your Supplies in Advance
Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation - Zig Ziglar
Few things kill cleaning motivation faster than not having the right supplies on hand. Save yourself from frustration by preparing everything you need ahead of time.
Spring Organizing Essentials
Chord ties
Drop zone baskets or tray|
Command hooks
Garbage bin for a mail center
Storage bins for organization
Having everything ready to go keeps your momentum going and prevents unnecessary breaks (or distractions… like scrolling social media for “cleaning inspiration” instead of actually cleaning).
Reward Yourself When You Are Done
Spring cleaning is a big accomplishment, and you deserve a reward!
Personally, I love treating myself by splurging on a beautiful organizing product:
✨ A new organizing bin or storage basket to keep your space tidy. (My faves are these White Hampton Bins.)
✨ A new book (Maybe You Should Talk To Someone by Lori Gottlieb was SO good.)
✨ A manicure (I love OPI GellColor, Mexico City Move. It makes me think of a Robin’s egg)
✨ A beautiful jewlery box to celebrate your refreshed space. (Love this one)
Whatever it is, acknowledge your hard work and enjoy your freshly cleaned, clutter-free home!
